This course will serve an introduction to painting through an investigation of landscape, the figure and still-life. It will provide a foundation for painting with gouache on paper through mostly synchronous Zoom sessions, with a strong focus on color theory. Emphasis willbe placed on developing technical skills through observational painting, whileresearchingart historically significant works to develop a personalvision.No prerequisites are required, though a background in the basics of drawing is recommended.

Students can expect our remote teaching to be up to 4 hours of remote meeting per week and roughly 4 hours of asynchronous coursework/independent work time per week, using Canvas and Zoom. Our work will be conducted remotely using both Canvas and Zoom. ÌýI will offer alternative assignments and ways of participating if conditions or illness prevent students from accessing our synchronous meetings, which will allow students to earn comparable credit.
